First Day in Diepsloot
March 16, 2017
Today we went met with a woman who said she had been battling with a demon inside her for seven years. When my team and I asked her how she got this demon she began to tell us that it came from her grandmother who was a Sangoma, also known as a witch doctor. When we first met her she was acting normal as if there was nothing wrong with her. We then asked her if she would take us to her home and we talk and share about the Lord there. When we got to her house she let us in, grabbed milk crates for us to sit on, and invited us to sit on the two beds she had. As we all sat in a circle in this little shack with her, her husband, and her friend, we began to ask questions as to how this evil spirit came to her. All of us had a Bible and were eager to share scripture with her. Our friend, who was a Pastor, opened up Romans 10:8-9 placed the bible in her hands, and asked her to read it. She started and got to, "That if you confess with your mouth that J...." and the Bible was thrown across the room. She began to tremble and we began to pray, speak scripture, pray in the Holy Spirit etc. You could imagine it was very intense, but after an hour and forty-five minutes she was no longer held captive; she was free! In this situation perseverance was definitely a big part; we knew God was going to free her right then and there. God never intended for us to be held captive by fear, sin, and death. After God freed her, she went outside for some water and we began encouraging her. We gave her the Bible and told her to read Romans 10 again, and because God is so faithful she was able to read aloud that scripture along with many more! We then came back into her house and all circled up and prayed over her, her husband, and her home. I knew God had freed her and that blew me away, but what happened next totally wrecked me. We began to pray all together at once, and I open my eyes during the prayer, looked two people from the hand I was holding, and there she was speaking in tongues! I began to weep out of sheer awe! God is an extremist! This woman was just in one of the darkest moments of her life, but God and his unconditional love brought her from her darkest moment to her brightest! She was changed, she was radical, she was FREE!
